Russia is situated in the Eastern Europe and Northern part of Asia. The territory of the country is very diverse because of its landscape and climate. Russia is one of the biggest world countries. The length of public use highways is more than 460 thousand km, railway lines - more than 85 thousand km.

Extractive industries are considered to be advanced industries. The production of many minerals and raw materials is carried out. Among them are: gas and oil, iron ore, ore of non-ferrous and less-common metals, diamonds, gold, coal, sulfur, potassium and rock salt, and much other mineral wealth. Space vehicles are produced. Russian military equipment occupies leading positions on technical characteristics in the world market. Machine building and metal-working, manufacturing of machines and equipment for different industries are developed. Power machine-building and electro-technical industry, machine-tool construction and instrument-making industry, transport machine-building including manufacturing of planes, automobiles, diesel locomotives, freight cars, sea and river ships are also in the list of developed industries. It should be then mentioned manufacturing of agricultural machines and mineral fertilizers, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, chemical, by-product-coking, petrochemical industries. Taking into account vast woodlands one can draw a conclusion about developed timber, pulp and paper industries, and woodworking. Huge amount of agricultural products, foodstuffs, textiles, and a lot of other products are also produced.

Thus, the industry in Russia is many-sided and technologically complicated. It embraces almost all the spheres of a big developed country. Significant financial investments are being contributed into its re-equipment nowadays. First it refers to acquiring of advanced technological equipment, machines, mechanisms and products of present-day state-of-the-art.

Russian Federation maintains trade relations almost with all the EU countries; foreign trade turnover here is made up more than 20%. Trade with the former USSR republics and with the USA is also of high importance.

Technical Regulation and Certification in Russian Federation (RF)

Nowadays technical regulation and certification in RF is based on the Federal Statute of December 27, 2002 N 184-ФЗ "About Technical Regulation". The current Federal Statute regulates relations arisen when:

  • developing, accepting, applying and carrying out of obligatory requirements concerning production, processes of production, exploitation, storing, transportation, realization and utilization;
  • developing, accepting, applying and carrying out on voluntary basis requirements concerning production, processes of production, exploitation, storing, transportation, realization and utilization; carrying out of works and rendering of services;
  • conformity assessment.
